Re:Cover-Up Your Arisotcrats DVD Cover - 2006/03/21 22:29
Chalmers, Thanks! That online portfolio is a few years out of date but I'm still so happy to get adulations for the effort . It's funny how I get more satisfaction from the demostration work and sharing it than I do from my recent work on NFS: underground 2 and Most Wanted.
But yeah, I was in 110 and 151 Lloyd Chadburn. I was awarded a flight scholarship in ~89 (I think). Darn, I really have forgotten WHEN I was at CFB Trenton, it was as long time ago. I miss flying so very much, I should make the effort and time to get back into it.
But as for Daz's design I think you might have a thought, Chalmers. That or Penn really does just hate it... he seems to have specific ideas on what works and what doesn't. Myself, I'd go with a LOT of pictures of the comics in Artistocrats. As I see it, the right faces and names can boost sales dramatically if placed right but I wonder what the extra costs for those rights would be?
For instance, as soon as I heard George Carlin was in artistocrats I was out the door to get it. Penn is so right about the dog too, I completely passed over the DVD BECAUSE of the damn dog. It was a poor concept but having said that, I *think* I can guess what the designer might have been thinking: subtextual beastiality perhaps?
Also, I agree that the season 2 DVD of BS looks needy but I can understand how it appeals to folks today, sadly. Maybe the next season's design will be a big bright neon green cover with purple lettering and glittering lines and embossed printing? Oh, why not just put blinking LED lights or use glow in the dark inks to make it good and ugly but as shocking as possible, huh? Hehe, crazy commercial artists... they're an insane lot.
I think they would do well to consider just putting BS3 on a 30' angle covering the entire fornt cover with Penn and Teller's faces faded in from each open corner. But I'm digressing now.
Daz, where is 'the local area' now for you now exactly? And for how long have you been in North America? Sorry to hear that the job front has been a pain.
