Drowned Alive: David Blaine's latest stunt - 2006/05/04 01:56 ok, is it just me (I know it isn't), but does this seem just... oh, what's the word for it...

gay

but what is shocking to me is that people are actually taking this not only seriously, but admire it.

i hate to use this random guy as an example, but it just reminds me of the south park episode about David Blaine, and how people worship this man.

the thing that pisses me off about david blaine's stunts is they don't invovle any magic. at least when criss angel does a publicity stunt like this, he ends it with a 'magical' escape. david blaine just walks out and that's that. sure in his special he's gonna escape from chains underwater, that's kinda cool, but his big thing is holding his breath.

ooooooo. is there any way we can either make blaine stop these shenanagains, or at least make him a better magician?

Re:Drowned Alive: David Blaine's latest stunt - 2006/05/04 02:02 also, i know i'm going to watch the special sunday, cause even though i don't want to support Blaine, supporting him supports other magicians.

it just sucks that he is one of the big figureheads of american magic.

Re:Drowned Alive: David Blaine's latest stunt - 2006/05/04 13:53 Drowned Alive is now in wikipedia which discusses his "record attempt" in enough detail to show how he'll do this.

ps the David Blaine entry also mentions Marcus Brigstocke's mockery (also see here), I especially like the nickname "Git Wizard"

Re:Drowned Alive: David Blaine's latest stunt - 2006/05/04 14:19 Thanks for the wikipedia link Vlad. I was wondering how Blaine would do the trick.

:Drowned Alive: Blaine update - 2006/05/06 16:50 David's hands are flaking badly, so he's now wearing some special gloves (to stop the tank looking like there's bits of fish food in there, presumably).

In the latest podcast from BBC Radio 4's The Now Show, the ever caustic Marcus Brigstocke only spends a couple of minutes dissing the "Git Wizard" as his broadband isn't working properly and most of his anger was focussed on that.

some joker adds pee-dye to the tank...

Ewww!

David Prunehands!!

He'll never have to worry about misdirection - just wave a clammy zombie hand at the mark and they'll be mesmerised!

Re:Pickled Alive: Blaine update - 2006/05/07 21:14 On Conan O'brien they put a guy dressed in a whale suit lying on the ground near Blaine's stunt flapping his fins around like it was doing a record for longest whale on land.

I wonder what Blaine was thinking lol

Re:Drowned Alive: David Blaine's latest stunt - 2006/05/08 01:56 that might be the single dumbest stunt I've seen in a while... I like it but I'd never may money to see it.

Re:Drowned Alive: David Blaine is disgusting. - 2006/05/08 17:42

his PR says it's Gatorade, and it's probably just his "liquid food"... but did they have to make use Unhealthy-urine-yellow for the color?

Edit: ALSO here is a clip from the Daily Show about David Blaine.
jason jones and his attempt to heckle david blaine the full 7 days

Re:Drowned Alive: David Blaine is disgusting. - 2006/05/08 19:05 My bet is he drowns and will have to be brought back by emergency folks ... and I'm not trying to make a joke, I just don't have high expectations on this one being a walk away.

Re:Drowned Alive: David Blaine is disgusting. - 2006/05/09 22:27 in case you guys wanted to know how to tie your shoe laces and be as cool as blaine, go here

i mean the trick is neat, but really lame, more lame than neat.

but what did you guys think about the very minimal tricks he did in the special? i thought the one with the teeth was pretty neat, looked like it was the same concept as the "bite in quarter" but it could've been something even more simple, like stooges and editing.

the special had far too much dialogue that i didn't care about.

but 7 minutes 8 seconds is pretty impressive for holding your breath. too bad he couldn't perform a decent escape, HE HAD THE FUCKING KEY FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! if anyone compares that bullshit to houdini, i'll be pissed... hell, i'm already pissed at that bullshit escape.

Re:Drowned Alive: David Blaine is disgusting. - 2006/05/10 00:42 LOL the shoelase trick was the ONLY thing I thought he did well and it turns out to be a $20 gag. (of course invented by someone else)

The tooth trick had an obvious stooge, note how he went to someone before her and said her teeth weren't right. And I know I wouldn't let david blain mess with my teeth

I can't wait for Blain to accept Criss Angel's chalange, now THAT would be a cool special, Magicians Duel.
