DJ fired for "sarcastic" request for Penn's death - 2006/04/12 05:00 SAN FRANCISCO - A radio talk show host was fired after offering to pay a listener to kill comedian-magician Penn Jillette for racy comments about Mother Teresa.

All his pages on the FreeFM websites, and even his blog are down. But, behold the power of Google: the cached version of his blog from April 1st back. Seems like he spent a significant amount of time using Penn for fodder (he thought that Penn was a child molester because he went to the Britney Spears concert, and thought the Eagles are a good band, in response to Penn's opinion that they suck).

I still haven't managed to find the show in question, but I'm still trying. Does anyone know if it was even podcasted?

Edit: Aha, found it! http://www.1069freefm.com/pages/podcast/78.rss. And according to the article, he made the remarks on Wednesday, April 5th. So here it is: http://podcast.1069freefm.com/kifr1/6772.mp3 I haven't listened to all of it myself yet, so I can't confirm this is the one. But I will listen to it today, and report back... Let's hope it hasn't been edited.

So, riding on Penn's coattails (as the old phrase goes).

A couple of things disturb me about this:

1. Why threaten someone's life? Even as a joke it's still illegal. I'd have just sold "I Hate Penn" Voodoo dolls* or something and cashed in...

2. Penn had done his homework on Mother Teresa. He may look to some (and sound (and act)) like a cliche of a big dumb loudmouth but he's certainly no easy target.

* Hey - not a bad idea. I bet he'd dig a voodoo doll of himself.
And a smaller Teller doll with no mouth.
And a giggling Goudeau doll.
etc...etc... there is no possible use for a signature* except to demonstrate how funny/geeky/cynical/pathetic you are.

The guy seemed like so many other "Shock Jocks" I've heard/heard of, and nothing really hateful. Mind you, the mp3 file was only 44 minutes long, yet his show is 3 hours long, so if the request was made on Wednesday, it did not make it into the podcast. He did make a brief mention of both Penn and Mother Theresa, but not relating to each other at all.
