For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/13 10:11 For those of my dear kin across the world who miss Penns radio show (as I do), can I be so bold as to suggest a radio show you may like to try?

The show hasn't really got a name. It's hosted by two British guys Tommy Boyd and Duncan Barkes.

The show is something of an experiment over here in the UK - not sure if, as usual, you guys in the States are miles ahead of us on this one - its a talk-internet-radio-show-web-cast-with-pictures-thrown-in. They talk about anything and everything - taboos are one of their favourites, conspiracies, in fact they'll probably talk about anything if you want them too.

The show broadcasts from 8pm-10pm Sundays GMT (or BST whatever it is at the moment) and can be found here

http://www.playradiouk.com/root

Its only been going for about a month and is effectively a show that's evolving, for the presenters - who arn't young guys - its a place where they can finally broadcast free from the shackles of the British broadcasting standards authorities.

Previous shows podcasts can be found here:

http://playradiouk.podbean.com/

Hope you'll join me in listening.

Best regards.

Paul

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/13 14:06 Losing Penn Radio continues to make me very sad. I'm always looking for something new to listen to, so I'll give this a try. Thanks.

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/13 15:06 The more the merrier, hope you enjoy. I think the idea is to break down the barriers between presenters and audience, hence, no calls are screened, no subject too 'out there'.

I perhaps should also have mentioned that you can also catch up with previous shows here http://www.youtube.com/user/wwwplayradioukdotcom - thats those shows when the technology hasn't let them down and the webcams have worked.

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/14 10:32 This week the team discussed the taboo of farting, what would we do without legs, swallowing gum and other things & conspiracy theories.

I was going to download the show but then I read the topic. I'm kinda like "ermmm fart jokes... errmmmm..."

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/14 10:55 mindme I don't think there are actually any fart 'gags' as such in the show - its more of a discussion - and one of the presenters has a rather embarassing confession on the subject....

As I've said, the show is only 4 weeks old so they are still finding their feet and I'm sure it will evolve. The show can be about anything and nothing. Its light and shade, some serious moments and some completely pointless moments.

It's like nothing I've ever heard before, you may like it, you may not, hope you'll give it a chance.

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/14 14:15 Hmmmm!

I wrote to Tommy Boyd about a year ago telling him about Penn's show and recommending that he caught a podcast.

Now I'm not saying he listened to Penn but...
there is no possible use for a signature* except to demonstrate how funny/geeky/cynical/pathetic you are.

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/14 16:00 Hey Vlad - you a Boyd fan too then?

Yeah I pointed him in the direction of Penns show too but to be fair to Tommy he's always been one to try new things regardless of what others are doing, that probably accounts for his 20+ sackings...

theres a Boyd forum here http://www.forum.tommyboydshrine.co.uk/ if you're interested.

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/18 18:59 Okay I listened! They're pretty cool. Now am I just slow, but how do I subscribe to the podcast? I filled out the little form on Podbean or whatever the site is, and all I can do is download individual hours of the show (which is kind of a pain!). Thanks!!

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/19 05:52 Hey Resa, glad you enjoyed it. As far as the official podcasts go at the moment I'm not in a position to tell you how to subscribe I'll have to look into it when I'm not at work!!

There are completely uncensored versions of the show here http://mickynwa.com/tommyboyd.aspx - if you scroll down to the bottom of the page. These are recorded by a private individual and therefore can't actually be subscribed to.

I'll find out about the official recordings and get back to you.

Incidentally the link to the forum I gave in another post is currently down due to 'issues'...

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/09/21 06:12 Hi Resa, sorry for the delay in getting back, techinal issues and all that.

I've been advised that the best way of subscribing is via iTunes - just search for PlayRadio. Now I haven't tried this myself so let me know if you have any problems.

Cheers.

Paul

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/10/07 09:19 Sunday 7th October Show.

From Tommy:

"Tonight the Taboo subject is The Elderly of Today. Why are so many old folk so utterly unpleasant? The majority talk crap about the good old days to try and make youngsters feel frightened and unhappy. If the world is the pile of s*** they say, it's their bloody fault! Also, good to see those sneaky fouling Down Unders on the plane home, didn't know they were such cowards. Alan's sports round-up. Once again, the Human Zoo expects..."

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/11/10 17:25 "This week's Tommy Boyd Show on Play Radio goes on the attack challenging conventional broadcasting on the issue of their constraints and consequent mediocrity. Popular culture: music, film, literature and reportage move forward alongside and ahead of contemporary thinking. Not broadcasting. TV beats radio in this, and it's lamentable. What's wrong with radio? Alan Caddick's sports spots show the way, USA Joe takes the hits about his nationality, adopted home (Poland!), his slaphead and man boobs, and comes up fighting. Alyson Mead guests, the Human Zoo rules and Channel Four are in the studio filming."

Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio - 2007/11/17 20:33 Sunday 18th November Webcast 7pm GMT

"Tommy will be there with Duncan making a welcome appearance. They'll be taking the scaremongers in the Climate Change lobby to task for shoddy information. Examining several of the world's most outrageous Conspiracy theories. Discussing whether Star Trek is the worst TV show ever, and examining what Iain Lee has against Matt. The Human Zoo strand is up for discussion, Fat Steve may have something - anything will do - in his defence of the official version of the Holocaust, Loser Joe is sure to dig himself an even deeper hole, Alan Caddick's Sports roundup will probably go higher - is it the best thing on radio anywhere?. Plus Tommy will attempt a feat which is illegal on conventional radio.."
