Re:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! - 2007/03/03 17:10First, I'd like to add my thanks to all the other posts written in appreciation for Penn's radio program. I am very sad that the program has ended. I live in a city where the program wasn't carried on the radio, but the podcast version has been an integral part of my daily lunch hour stress buster walks. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Penn and Goudeau will have a similar show on XM or Sirius. Satellite radio would, I think, be an ideal fit for Penn and Goudeau. So hopefully this isn't adios, but rather hasta la vista.

Re:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! - 2007/03/03 19:58I've been in shock all morning. It's like a more pathetic version of when somebody you know dies. "But... I just listened to it yesterday! Everything seemed fine..."
I'm feeling a little better now. Sent them an email, do you think Mike is still checking the account? I hope it wasn't a useless gesture.
They're probably swamped with emails about this. Normally I don't mind when some of my messages are skipped over without thought. I'm just some dumbass without anything real important to say, so I can't really blame them. But I kind of hope they'll get my last one.
It sounded a little like he was hinting that the show might be back in some other format though. I think some of you got the same impression. I hope we're not just reading what we want to hear into that.
Am I the only one who finds Penn's voice kind of soothing?

Re:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! - 2007/03/03 20:35The impression I got is that Penn has a radio deal for a more suitable time spot/length/frequency for him, but wasn't meant to plug it on CBS.

That's an interesting idea. I wonder what/where it will be. There are non-compete clauses which I'm sure was in the contract they signed... they probably can't be on the radio for 6 months or more, if this is even true. If it's not (and I do lean in that direction to a degree) then maybe they really are revamping it for Viacom (not truly CBS radio)...
Penn probably got them to take most of the noncompetes out of the contract - he was/is working on NBC/Universal TV, a competitor to Viacom's CBS TV, suggesting that he at least got them down to saying that he couldn't work only on radio and not on TV, which he has enough star power to pull.
This also makes me wonder about the post that was yanked by Mike. It may disclose that there are future plans which would violate the spirit of the anti-compete, if not the actual terms thereof.
I'm not a lawyer and I don't even pretend to be but this all makes sense, at least a little.

Re:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! - 2007/03/03 22:08I never played an active roll in the show, always listening to it on podcast until that night. But hearing it being canceled got me motivated enough to write them an email, (hugs and kisses) and then look online to see who else was suffering with me. It made me really wish I could have listened to it live and called it.
It was one of few things that really made me laugh. And not just little giggles, but stuffing my hand in my mouth sort of laugher because I was afraid I would wake the household.
I'm really going to miss the show.
At least we still have Bullshit.

Re:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! - 2007/03/04 15:56I don't know who else noticed, but in some of his last words of the final show, Penn fired off a snarky word of "thanks" to the man at CBS who "didn't want to hear his name mentioned" -- "thanks, Joel!"
This is, of course, Joel Hollander, the same CBS clown who strangled Howard Stern off of terrestrial radio.
Thanks for destroying all of the interesting voices on the air, Joel.

The way he never tells people what to believe or what is right, but just asks them to maybe consider another point of view. You just won't be able to find a show quite like it.
Of course, the loss of Goudeau only makes the end that much harder. What a perfect counterpart he was to Penn's outrageousness.
Nicely said espaceman. It really sums up what I liked about the show.
