Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/02 16:06 Can anyone recommend any podcasts or radio shows (available online) that may be similar to Penn's?

Penn Radio appealed to me mainly because of the intelligent discussions and interviews. It's certainly nothing like the talk radio we have here in the Midwest.

Any ideas?

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/02 16:24 Neal Boortz has a fairly libertarian show, though I'm unsure of the podcastr.

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/02 17:04 I would recommend the Skeptic's Guide to The Universe podcast. Generally entertaining and similar in the topics covered. Although it's only once a week...

Thanks for the link. So far I like the show. Entertaining and intelligent. It's no Penn radio... but still worth a listen.

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/02 19:06 The skeptic/atheist podcasts I listen to (aside from the abovementioned):

Logically Critical - really good and highly entertaining but few and far between.

Skepticality - kinda "meh" lately, but they do have nice interviews every so often.

Freethought Radio - good interviews, but you often have to suffer through Dan Barker's hokey songs. Mike Jones he ain't. There's also this air of bra-burning solemnity that comes with the territory of career activists.

Skeptoid - short and sweet debunking of various nutjobbery.

There's really nothing on the level of Penn Radio, either in entertainment value or quantity, which makes it all the more missed. Dammit, this was my daily dose of sanity (and insanity). At least BS season 5 is starting soon.

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/02 19:42 Skeptic's Guide to The Universe podcast seems great, but so far I haven't heard any dick jokes, nor anything about boobies & monkeys.

Thanks for nothin', Joel Silver.

They do have an going debate about whether any monkey could beat any bird in a fair fight.

The Infidel Guy is another good one with good interviews.

Quackcast is a good one about alternative medicine. Although it's about once a month.

The SETI podcast is good, has good guests, and a regular appearance by Phil Plait.

All of these are available by iTunes and a search will easily find them.

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/02 20:28 I don't think there's anything else like Penn on the radio. But I listen to these podcasts regularly (as opposed to religiously)

SETI: Are We Alone (which often features Phil Plait as a guest).

Point of Inquiry (If you like plenty of Atheism mixed in with your science)

Along with Skepticality, Skeptoid and Skeptics Guise to the Universe (already mentioned)

All are available through iTunes

Oh trust me they get to those issue in time, in fact they usually mention monkeys quite often, it's usually from Jay or Rebecca that that stuff comes up. Stick with it, it's all good.

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/02 21:31 Two very good podcast are:

The Atheist Experience
http://www.atheist-experience.com/

The Non Prophets
http://www.nonprophetsradio.com/

Both of these are put out by the Atheist Community of Austin.
http://www.atheist-community.org/
You can get them from the websites or off itunes. Aside from Penn's show these were my favorite podcasts.

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/03 22:00 I don’t think anything will fill that hole Penn Radio left. Although none of these are "similar" to Penn, they are still podcasts you might enjoy.

Skeptics Guide: I also add in my vote for. A very interesting podcast, if lacking in blow-dryer stories.

Free Talk Live: For a libertarian nut point of view, there's always room for Free Talk Live. They're pretty much the reason I vote libertarian nowadays.

Distorted View: If you're looking for dick jokes and the like, this is the podcast for you. a rather funny, is not sick podcast. And lets not forget sextastic Tuesdays. Where the host reads you a porno in hopes of creeping you out. (They're all usually very silly or very weird)

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/04 12:39 Dennnis Miller has a 3 hour radio show starting up this month (March). Should be funny and he seemed to say he was libertarian when he was on with Penn

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/04 16:39 I also like the Skeptics Guide to the Universe.

You could also check out the Quick Hitts Podcast at http://www.davehitt.com/podcasts/
Libertarian views in a slightly humorous format.

Re:Since the show has ended, are there any alternatives to Penn Radio? - 2007/03/04 17:38 Dennis Miller is pretty funny, but he is really pseudo-libertarian. When it comes to security, including the wiretapping and guantanomo stuff, he seems to be for it. I am curious to hear what his show will be like though.
