Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.11.03 - 2006/11/03 20:11 This thread discusses the Content article: Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.11.03

Penn talking about Teller not talking today reminded me of the 2 stupidest retarded seconds of my life.

I flew over to Vegas from the UK on UA 10 days or so after 9-11(a crazy nightmare flight in my top 5 drinking stories) and dragged everyone to the(expensive) P&T show at the Rio.

After the show we came out and I was astonished for 2 seconds to see Teller talking to folk and laughing and hanging out. I just stopped in my tracks.

Why sober would this confuse me?

Why would I think that they could create these sophisticated bits of magic and never consider it was an act that Teller was dumb?

I guess I had never thought about it.

For 2 seconds I was like a religious person, unthinking and in awe...

Re:Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.11.03 - 2006/11/04 23:58 For the record, that was me (Nick) who made the call about typing with boxing gloves on.

It's no secret that they taped the show in advance, since they closed Thursday's show by saying the next show would be one from the can. So, while I got to hear the first half of that show in advance while I was on hold, I didn't get to hear anything after they hung up on me. And I was much more nervous than I thought I would be. So I spent the whole weekend secretly thinking my call was too long, that I tacked too much stuff on the end of it, maybe hoping they lost the tape.

Well, I listened to it, and either I was fine or they edited it down. I probably jumped the gun on the Randi thing; I was just trying to earn points for mentioning the prize. And from the way they talked about social engineering after the break; if they'd kept me on the line I might not have worried so much.

I'm often astonished at the quality of callers Penn gets, and I wonder if it's because he attracts a better audience, because he has such good call screeners, or because he knows how to make any caller sound great. I still can't tell for sure.

Re:Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.11.03 - 2006/11/05 01:32 I sent that question to their gmail account the first time they had Ask Dr. Penn. It must have been DELETED.

Re:Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.11.03 - 2006/11/05 14:32 I've had a few queries for Dr. Penn to answer, but Goudeau always gave me an answer back in an e-mail, which is fine too.

Re:Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.11.03 - 2006/11/05 20:57 I called in a month ago, while another Dr. Penn show was airing. They asked me and the other callers to stay on the line, so they could record the second show in advance.

That's why I'll probably stick to emails next time I have something to add to the show, as I'm usually too busy at work to stay on hold, but can usually take a minute or two to craft an email.

Re:Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.11.03 - 2006/11/05 21:37 Those sneaky little (insert obscene plural word).

Thats a very creative way top get two shows in one.

I wonder how many people called in on Friday to ask Penn A question.

I would've... if I didn't listen on the Thursday.
