Re:[Season 04] Death Penalty - 2006/04/19 09:42 Well, this show aired on Monday, April 17th.

With the statistics given, it's tough to dispute the fact that the death penalty is not having the desired effect of deterance. Texas executes more people than any other state, yet they still have more murders than other non-DP states.

As for the economics of it (ie, cheaper to kill someone than have them in jail for the rest of their lives), P&T really didn't go into much detail on that.

Re:[Season 04] Death Penalty - 2006/04/19 15:36 i think the issue of it being cheaper to execute someone would be addressed if there were no imprisoning of people who commit victimless crimes.

Re:[Season 04] Death Penalty - 2006/04/19 19:24 I thought this was a fantastic episode, and it really got me seeing some things from a different perspective.

Susan Stewart in TV Guide's Hits & Misses column was less impressed. In fact she was peeved enough to say:

"... this episode on the death penalty may make you want to kill somebody. A good candidate would be Teller, whose ranting overshadows his arguments."

Yes, she said "Teller". Of course, he co-writes the episodes, but honestly. If she can't pay close enough attention to get their identities correct, maybe she's not the best person to be writing reviews?

And seriously ... damn. For the second time in as many weeks, somebody has "sarcastically" suggested somebody kill Penn (aka Teller) because they don't like what he has to say.

Teller's ranting. That is hilarious

Teller only did one of the things he does best, die on stage. Mabey that is what she was talking about does constantly being killed count as ranting.

Re:[Season 04] Death Penalty - 2006/04/21 05:58 This was the first episode of Bullshit I didn't agree with. While all of their arguments against the people's pro-stance on the death penalty were true.. those are not my same reasons for wanting the death penalty. To me, the biggest reason to have the death penalty available is that life in prison just is not a harsh enough for certain crimes. People can get life in prison for drug distribution.. Someone who murders 33 men and burries 29 of them under his house needs should be held to a different standard in regards to consequences.

Also, there was a quote saying that there are three reasons people kill. Profit, Passion, and compulsion. I disagree that these are the only reasons people murder one another. Acting out a murder does not equate to compulsion if the murder was not for the other two reasons.

Re:[Season 04] Death Penalty - 2006/04/21 11:37 This is one issue I still can't make my mind up on, and this episode has just added more fuel to the flames for me on both sides. I suppose I will deal with it though but I can't agree or disagree with them at the moment but for the moment I am swinging a bit closer to the anti death penalty, for the moment.

Teller only did one of the things he does best, die on stage

That act that Teller and the mime did was hilarious, the second time around had me in stitches on the ground, that mime was just so happy and jolly. Top performance form all.
