Penn Radio Podcast Dead - 2006/07/06 17:58 This thread discusses the Content article: Penn Radio Podcast Dead

BAH! Even though they did a shit job of getting podcasts out consistantly, atleast they did it. Oh well, I am very thankful that we have you around to pick up the slack. Keep up the great work!

If you ever need anything as far as technical support or web hosting/design just ask.

Jake

Re:Penn Radio Podcast Dead - 2006/07/06 19:28 Can someone write to Penn and ask him to stop refering to them as "illegal" podcasts. Is it hurting him to have a wider audience?

What always bothered me was that the official podcasts don't even have advertising, and the ones from this site usually do...

So apart from some legal technicality, the unofficial files are probably better for Free FM

Maybe that's why they stopped bothering with the official ones.

Re:Penn Radio Podcast Dead - 2006/07/06 19:32 Oh never mind, he did say in the latest episode he doesn't know the legality, and we would probably have to record it ourselves...

Re:Penn Radio Podcast Dead - 2006/07/06 21:31 At one point, Penn said something like "It doesn't really matter to him if all of his recorded/broadcast material is 'pirated', because he makes most of his money from live performances". I personally know that many people to whom I've lent my BullShit! DVDs later went out and bought a set of their own (possibly a later season) and/or subscribed to Showtime as a result. I've actually wished that the podcast might have a reasonably tasteful, intelligent (60 second or less) commercial at the begining, end or maybe even the middle to help support it. (I could even live with before, after and JUST ONE in the middle.) As much as I appreciate the recorded downloads, I con't see why anyone, given a choice, would listen to it on that station that fills up the show with those 5 minute breaks where they play bad music and tell you how lucky you are that you don't have to listen to commercials. (Okay, I bet tha most of us don't believe in luck. ) What those annoyance breaks tell me is that they couldn't sell ads and then I start worrying that the show might be in trouble.

Seriously though, THANK YOU VERY MUCH to everyone who takes the time to record the show and make it available to those of us who aren't able to listen to it otherwise. Likewise, thank you to everyone who has contributed to the excellent show notes on this site. (I wish all programs had notes like that to help people find segments, etc.)

Re:Penn Radio Podcast Dead - 2006/07/06 22:22 Wow, they know a lot of the people hear the show from the podcast. It's such a shame that they have stopped recording the show.

Re:Penn Radio Podcast Dead - 2006/07/07 12:19 Just download them from the Penn Radio site... It sucks that the Podcast is dead, but it appears the 5 most recent shows are still being uploaded:

Re:Penn Radio Podcast Dead(ish) - 2006/07/07 12:21 CBS have, amazingly, put up a podcast of yesterday's show "Presidents & Pot".

WTF?

I've confirmed with Dustin that it's CBS in New York who organise the podcasts - Huh? WHAT ARE THEY DOING??

Thank Xenu that we've got the Patriotic Monkey Tuesday podcast on this site!

I'm not sure what the deal is with the official podcast. Penn says it's dead but yesterdays show is up at pennradio.com

I'll keep updating the unofficial podcast as regularly as I can.

I can't see Patriotic Monkey Tuesday there.

Or Monday's Kinky Friedman show.

Yeah, they didn't do those ones..

Someone submitted my podcast to the Itunes music store but it got rejected..

Re:Penn Radio Podcast Dead(ish) - 2006/07/07 14:41 I sent a "WTF?" gmail and yesterday I got this reply from MG:
Apparently our crew was sleeping. I hope it's up soon.

So who knows? I haven't heard the show since June 30 but just grabbed your feed so I can start getting caught up. The bummer is, I had my kid all hyped to listen to the PMT show while waiting for the fireworks to start, and then nothing.

Thanks to youse guys here, we'll get it a bit late.

Re:Penn Radio Podcast Dead(ish) - 2006/07/07 15:39 Here in NY on 92.3 the Monday and Monkey Tuesday shows were not even broadcast. Instead they had a 4th of July Rock Weekend. Both I and my friend make our own podcast from the live broadcast (he by recording off FM, I by transcoding the streaming feed from the 92.3 site) and both of us wound up with nothing but music for those two days.

My guess is that the official podcast is produced in NY, and since they weren't carrying those episodes, they didn't make podcasts of them. Too bad, because I missed what I'm sure was a great Monkey Tuesday. I'll pick up a copy from the unofficial podcast posted on this site and stuff it into my pirate archives, though.

Anyway, it doesn't look like the "official" podcast is dead, just that those episodes are missing. And we can probably expect more gaps in the future whenever the NY Free FM station preempts the show with a special event.

I can't get Google Reader to pick it up and Firefox refuses to parse it.
