athiest graduation dedication - 2006/11/18 15:50
greetings ladies. i am posting here for the first time to ask for a source for some jillette gems. a friend of mine is graduating with her phd soon and the organizers have decided to start off the ceremony with a prayer. the prof asked for anyone with a special connection with certain prayers to submit them, and/or volunteer to read the dedication, asking simply that "all religions" be "respected." said friend disapproved and said so, to said prof, on the grounds that it doesn't respect her atheism. now, she has to come up with a dedication that's atheist. i'm helping her look up quotes for her dedication.
so, if any of you have any sources you can turn me on to, i'd really like that. i have npr's "this i believe," and it's good, but i'm hoping there's more.... wait a minute... the last chapter of sock ought to serve as good inspiration too...
anyway, if anyone reads this (i saw the last post was in september, egad) before the graduation, please post any leads you can think of.
thanks. --Ms. Candy
