in god we trust - 2006/02/26 10:34 We're coming up to the 50th anniversary of ?In God We Trust? being the national motto of the USA (The previous motto ?E Pluribus Unum? having been active for 170 years ? as long as the United States themselves).

I remember a Randi newsletter where he had mock-ups of dollar bills with ?In Thor We Trust? and ?In Allah We Trust? printed on them.

Maybe we should have athiesm themed money?

Not being an American I wouldn?t dare suggest a change in the motto on their currency (though I saw a t-shirt with it changed to ?Who?s Your Daddy?? in Dublin last summer) but what would you suggest as a replacement for "In God We Trust"?
there is no possible use for a signature* except to demonstrate how funny/geeky/cynical/pathetic you are.

Re:in god we trust - 2006/02/26 12:00 I like "America, They Hate Us For Our Freedom" It seems to be a favorite of president Bush.

In that Dawkins doc that you posted online, remember the muslim shop owner that was saying part of the reason he hates America is because we "allow" our women to dress like whores? Yeah.. so not that far off. At least the motto is partialy true, but then again.. so is "In God We Trust"

At any rate, it's time for "In God We Trust" to come off our cash.. I think we've distinguished ourselves against communists for long enough

Re:in god we trust - 2006/08/03 11:19 Our money should have a warning label on it with the possible dangers linked with it. Something like
Warning: This product has been known to cause drunkeness, laziness, depression, anxiety, greed, envy, blah, blah, blah

Re:in god we trust - 2006/08/13 09:40 The whole In God We Trust thing... wasn't that added in response to communism? I think the god bit added to the pledge of allegiance was likewise added in a frenzy of anti-communism.

Re:in god we trust - 2006/08/13 19:43 I don't think we need "athiest themed" money (like: "there is no god" or "people are laughing at your imaginary friend"). Getting the government out of the religion business isn't the same as the patently Soviet idea of moving toward atheism as the state sponsored religion.

The original EPU slogan was great, and was an accurate depiction of America's construction. Lately, I scribble out the "GOD" and write in "FREEDOM." And that's the sort of optimistic message I want on my money: "IN FREEDOM WE TRUST"

Alternatly, I think it'd be pretty cool to get fortune cookie-style messages on dollar bills.
