Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.05.10.James Randi - 2006/05/10 16:18 - The Time magazine front page article Inside the Autistic Mind mentions facilitated communication.

- Goudeau has an autistic child.

- The Amazing Randi calls in to talk about facilitated communication.

- Randi explains that facilitated communication involves a communicator holding a childs hand and typing for them.

- Call from Melissa who has an autistic daughter.

- Goudeau "45 studies say it doesn't work"

- Wasn't this a Law and Order episode? yes

- Randi first debunked facilitated communication about six years ago.

- Call from Colleen who works with autistic children. She doesn't use facilitated communication because it isn't real.

- Call from Christine who has an autistic son. "It (facilitated communication) sounds like a scam."

- Randi has debunked facilitated communication by shielding the communicator's eyes and by asking the child a question without the communicator in the room.

- Goudeau "On the radio you hear a lot of fake outrage... This is something we should be yelling about... This is an awful thing and it has to be stopped"

- Randi asks us to write to the editor of Time Magazine at letters@time.com

Re:Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.05.10.James Randi - 2006/05/10 16:43 It was good hearing the old debunker back on the airwaves. We've missed you Randi!

I like the bit about him getting 'thrown out': "Send the bad man back to Florida" or whatever it was!

This was a good Goudeau show too!

(that's enough exclamation marks vlad!)
there is no possible use for a signature* except to demonstrate how funny/geeky/cynical/pathetic you are.

Is it just me or are Bullshit! episodes getting a little predictable now that we know what Penn and Michael are thinking about on a daily basis!? Lol..

Re:Penn.Jillette.Radio.Show.2006.05.10.James Randi - 2006/05/11 15:29 Michael was verging on an emo session. I wonder if anyone was holding his hand to try and calm him down during his effort to keep a lid on the tears. I almost lost it myself with empathy just listening to his buried rage mixed with sadness and strong devotion to his son.

But I'm probably reading into the subtle nuiances and elaborating on it needlessly. Never the less, this is the quality of broadcast I would like to hear these guys do more often. When Penn and Michael take on real issues I stop what I'm doing and listen.
