Re:Second Hand Smoke Correction - 2007/03/15 22:56
I think that has been posted here before by somebody else. I don't remember Penn correcting himself in any episode of Bullshit, does anybody know which episode that was?
In any case, I wish I knew what study they were referring to in that video. I'd kind of like to know the details for myself. Whatever the study, it seems to have convinced Penn, as he mentioned in one of his radio shows.
I sent that link to Dave Hitt, a podcaster who is critical of the anti-smoking movement, and asked him what he thought of it. This was his response:
I love P&T, and they're right most of the time. But if Penn has bought into the SHS myth (and he was couching his words there) then that's one of the few things he's wrong on.
I don't know which study that was - there's *always* another study, and many of them, like the SGs report, are nothing more than rehashes of previous studies.
The bottom line is that SHS is so diluted by the time it gets to a non-smokers lungs, the dose is so low, that it's harmless. And that's a fact that most studies never even acknowledge.

I'm not sure that a rehashing would have convinced Penn, he made the point in the smoking episode that most studies were just rehashing old data (I believe the term is "meta study").
Maybe I should dig a little deeper on this...
