Early Penn 4 Years, 1 Month ago
I was browsing the web last night, and came across this interview. It mentions a little project Penn was involved in back in 1982: the Ralph Records 10th Anniversary Radio Special. Penn was hired by Ralph Records to sit alone in a motel room for six days and play records that were delivered to him each morning, then record his impressions on tape.

The results of the experiment have been edited down to a little over an hour, and can be listened to here (click where it says "Play Full Tape&quot. He sounds so different, I wouldn't have recognized it as Penn (neither would his wife, according to the interview)! Really interesting to hear how his voice and style of speaking has changed over the years.

It seems this was Penn's first taste of The Residents

Listen as he starts out disliking, but grows to love (and apparently pimp ) this and other artists of the label.

I haven't watched it because I've been capped for the month, but there is a possibility that somewhere along the line the video did get sped up by a dodgy transfer or something.

I've converted the real media stream into mp3 files.. You can download a zip file containing the mp3s here. I'll have them up for streaming in the audio archive soon.

Re:Early Penn 4 Years ago
I cant beleive that is him, its so weird sounding, I know peopls voices change with age, but I didnt think that much. I have been a fan of P&T sinc roughly 1985 or so and I remember Penn sounding like he does now. Not only does his voice not have the bravdo and punch that it does now, but his speaking style is entirely different. In that recording he sounds almost uninteresting and not very sure of himself and definetly does not have the attitude he is famous for and that we so love.
