Re:For Those of You Missing Penn Radio 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Sunday 7th October Show.

From Tommy:

"Tonight the Taboo subject is The Elderly of Today. Why are so many old folk so utterly unpleasant? The majority talk crap about the good old days to try and make youngsters feel frightened and unhappy. If the world is the pile of s*** they say, it's their bloody fault! Also, good to see those sneaky fouling Down Unders on the plane home, didn't know they were such cowards. Alan's sports round-up. Once again, the Human Zoo expects..."

"This week's Tommy Boyd Show on Play Radio goes on the attack challenging conventional broadcasting on the issue of their constraints and consequent mediocrity. Popular culture: music, film, literature and reportage move forward alongside and ahead of contemporary thinking. Not broadcasting. TV beats radio in this, and it's lamentable. What's wrong with radio? Alan Caddick's sports spots show the way, USA Joe takes the hits about his nationality, adopted home (Poland!), his slaphead and man boobs, and comes up fighting. Alyson Mead guests, the Human Zoo rules and Channel Four are in the studio filming."

Sunday 18th November Webcast 7pm GMT

"Tommy will be there with Duncan making a welcome appearance. They'll be taking the scaremongers in the Climate Change lobby to task for shoddy information. Examining several of the world's most outrageous Conspiracy theories. Discussing whether Star Trek is the worst TV show ever, and examining what Iain Lee has against Matt. The Human Zoo strand is up for discussion, Fat Steve may have something - anything will do - in his defence of the official version of the Holocaust, Loser Joe is sure to dig himself an even deeper hole, Alan Caddick's Sports roundup will probably go higher - is it the best thing on radio anywhere?. Plus Tommy will attempt a feat which is illegal on conventional radio.."

I'm listening to the 11-18-07 show. It's not that great.

If it's anything like the Penn Jillette Show, it's the fact that it's broadcast over radio waves. That's the only thing that I can grasp that is similar between the two.

It's not because the Penn Jillette Show had Goudeau and Penn. That's part of the reason, but the show was actually funny, it was hip, it tackled great subjects.

This show? So far they've just taken REALLY shitty phone calls.

Plus, I can understand Penn and Goudeau. These accents sound like highly pitched kazoos to me.

There are two things that prove atheism: Evolution and the Tommy Boyd Show.

I'll give it another shot since another show is coming up tomorrow. Maybe I just picked the wrong show to start on. I'll give it a fair shake.

I've listened to three Tommy Boyd shows, now, and I have to say that it is mildly listenable, and not anywhere of the caliber of Penn's show. More often than not the guys on the Tommy Boyd show are abusive, egotistical, and purposefully obtuse (when it suits them). They remind me more of the standard "shock jock" types than Penn.
When I first listened, I thought that maybe Tommy and his band of arrogant clowns were having a joke on the "unsuspecting" listener...in the same way that Phil Henry does. After almost nine hours of hearing them take mostly unusable phone calls and talking over the good ones, I've come to the conclusion that they're probably just cheeky bastards who think that they are all they claim they are (savvy showstoppers, and entertainment media moguls). There is no civil discourse on the show, unless it suits them...they only take the moral high road when they feel they're points are unassailable; otherwise they bully and browbeat, talking over the valid points and claiming that the caller hasn't got a leg to stand on...in the US we see this same browbeating on the conservative "news" shows. Poor, poor substitute for Penn and Michael.

I found Opie and Anthony to be a good radio show.

I like their dirty humor and when they talk about serious things, they typically attack the issues from a logical standpoint.

They had some guy call in a few weeks ago. He said the earth was 6,000 years old and Anthony and Jim Norton jumped on the guy.

Anthony is a big gun nut and has been collecting firearms quite heavily lately.

They had a show where they went outside and talked to 9-11 conspiracy theorists and pointed out how full of shit their "inside job" stuff is.

Opie and Anthony aren't as loving as Penn and Goudeau, but it's still great radio.

They have a show on CBS radio in a lot of markets and they are also on XM channel 202, The Virus.
